Glasson County House & Golf Club

Press Release:

The Minister for Arts, Heritage & Gaeltacht Affairs, Jimmy Deenihan TD, congratulated Glasson Country House Hotel & Golf Club who received the award for the 2011 Golf Resort of the Year at the Golf Tour Operator Association (IGTOA) 2011 Gala Irish Golf Awards, announced on Monday 24th October at Gala Dinner held in Thomond Park Stadium.

Glasson Golf Club, designed by Christy O Connor Junior and situated just outside the quaint village of Glasson (known as the ‘Village of the Roses’) recently celebrated its 18th Birthday. The transition of Glasson from a family Farm through to its current wide-ranging facilities has been a major success for the Region and a testament to the hard work and dedication put in by the owners Tom and Breda Reid, ably assisted by Fidelma Reid and Gareth Jones and the rest of the Team behind them at Glasson.

Whilst they would not claim to be immune to the challenges provided by the current market conditions, they have taken the opportunity to make a significant investment in their Property over the last 2 years with the new Banqueting Suite at Glasson Country House Hotel & Golf Club rapidly establishing itself as the most exciting and scenic Wedding Venues in the Region, if not the Country.

This commitment to continuous development and improvement has been internationally recognized, with Glasson receiving the prestigious ‘2011 IGTOA Golf Resort of the Year’ at the equivalent of the ‘Golfing Oscars’ in Thomond Park – attended by Minister Deenihan and some of the greats from Munster Rugby, including Keith Wood, Anthony Foley and Alan Quinlan. Minister Deenihan stated: "These awards recognise the best in the Irish golf tourism industry, with awards for our national hotels, golf courses, golf resorts and golf secretary managers. Receiving an award from the Irish Golf Tour Operators Association is deserved recognition of the effort put in throughout the year to make the visitor experience as memorable and special as it can be.”

The IGTOA represent the key Golf Tour Operators that promote Irish Golf, both domestically and to a wide range of International Markets. It is a great honour for Glasson to receive the award for the ‘2011 IGTOA Golf Resort of the Year’ and it is recognition of the work done over many years by Tom Reid, in particular, to emphasise that Ireland does not consist of a narrow band of land beside a long Coastline and that there is indeed something very worthwhile for the International Traveller to see in the centre of Ireland – now known as the ‘Lakelands’. Recognition at last that Ireland is NOT a Polo Mint…!
